as Jack Reacher.

I’ve got no issue with this. Whilst a fan of Cruise I’ve never read the Lee Child books but often hear friends & colleagues bemoaning the fact that he is some 10 inches too short to play the 6’5” Reacher.
But if so, who fits that bill? Apart from Johnny Bravo there’s nobody springing immediately to mind!
Hoping Child fans abound on here and will voice input.

I'm with Andy....Liam Neeson for me too......and the way things are going Tom Cruise needn't fret.....he can become the Brexit secretary.....

Hugh Jackman if Liam turns it down.... x
I have checked the vital statistics of Messrs Leeson and Jackman - I appear to be pretty much the same height/weight (albeit some of the avoirdupois may be located a little nearer floor level). I am also experimenting with beardiness.

I can point to an impeccable acting career - never had a bad review in a National Paper - and am available just as soon as my bad back clears up.

Here's a thought - since we Tom Cruise is a high-profile actor, and his acting style is on view on many films, and we can reasonably assume that his height is a well-known statistic - how come he was ever considered as a suitable choice to play Jack Reacher at all?

I said at the time it was advised that he was selected - I would love to know how much money he has paid Lee Child for the author to sanction the choice of Tom Cruise, and then go on record as being polite and enthusiastic about it.

I am not a published fiction author, and I am not a Hollywood casting agent, but I have read all the Jack Reacher novels, and if I can see in about three seconds that Tom Cruise is not remotely suitable to play Reacher on screen - why did no-one involved see what I, and millions of Reacher fans, could see?

Money really must affect people's judgement, not to say their eyesight!

It's the age old 'bums on seats' equation andy. Tom Cruise is a 'name' so people will go to see his next film. You can be the most talented thing on the planet but unless someone opens the door for you and you appear in things that the great and the good are in and so hitch yourself up, you'll never get a look in, plus what Tom Cruise wants, Tom Cruise generally gets. Really glad he's not involved with this now, and he is indeed 5'5 standing on his tip toes.

I take the broad essence of your point - but I think this is a different situation.

If this was my first novel, and the film option was taken up by Tom Cruise, and I thought he was about as suitable as a cockroach on a wedding cake, I still might consider saying yes, because that would get my work into the mainstream, and I could hopefully have some say in the next film.

But Lee Child is a million-selling word-wide successful author and this was something like his fifteenth best seller being optioned, so he is hardly in a position where he has to take the first option, even if it is Tiddly Tom.

So like I say, I can only assume a nine-figure deal was offered to him, and he swallowed his pride and took it - I can think of no other reason.
I think you're right andy, I think that's exactly what happened :/

Did you mean to write wee Tom Cruise??

No, nothing so subtle, it was just a bit I omitted to deleted before I posted.
