Double Standards I Think?
46 Answers
Last night, on late night LBC radio a certain presenter referred to the President of the United States as that "ORANGE APE who lives in the White House" (obviously the orange refers to his skin tone)
Would he have been allowed to refer to the last President in a similar a way?
I think not, he would have been sacked on the spot and rightly so, so why has there been no outcry over this?

Trouble is, Trumps skin is a constant (ok it may go from tangerine to satsuma now and again, depending on his mood). Brexit is a developing story.

/// Monkey and ape references are slurs towards blacks and not
whites. ///
Could it be that they have chosen to take offence, we have been calling our kids "little monkeys" for years?
Apart from that what about Ginger haired people, fat people et etc?
I remember a bald player who played for Brentford, when they played against certain teams, boy did he take some stick, especially when he headed a muddy ball, which made laughable marks on his bald head.
I believe that if these black players ignored the taints from a minority of yobs, the uncouth yobs would soon get fed up, just like all bullies do when they find that they are not having the effect that they crave for.
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but calling never hurts me."

When comparing a white man to an ape there is no confusion whether this has anything to do with the fact that they are dark skinned like apes - skin colour is a sensitive subject, and also they look like they may have African heritage, and monkeys are associated with Africa.
It's usually more about intellectual capacity or physical characteristics unrelated to skin colour or ancestral heritage which for historical reasons are regarded as fairer game for comparison.

AOG I'm not sure it's about choosing to take offence, the monkey chants and throwing bananas is quite obviously meant to give offence - it's what football supporters do to opposing teams after all, wind them up and jeer at them. Whether the player ignores it or doesn't see/hear it doesn't mean that the intent wasn't there and it's purely based at black players because of their dark skin and association with Africa.
Gingers/bald people may also take offence, some may not but these characteristics don't have a direct link to race or racism which lets be fair quite has a few bad things attributed to it over the years.

Is having a black skin and any association with Africa, something to be ashamed about?

Being discriminated against or receiving physical harm because one is black is obviously a no, no, but name calling really?

Not by me, but you are linking two matters together to try and make one.
My attack on you for being rude by shortening my username so as to insult me, is not tied to the argument between myself and Andy Hughes because I chose to call him by his surname, which isn't insulting at all.
