On The Subject Of Radio Programmes

how many of you actually listen to a radio other than in the car or on in the background? Do people still tune in at home as much? I don't actually know anyone who does.

Most of my friends are Radio Four listeners but as my hearing is not good, I tend not to use the radio very much. I need visual clues to hear what's being said.

I do listen to Ken Bruce and Johnnie Walker though for the music and the Pop Quiz.

Every day and night, lankeeler. I thoroughly enjoy perusing the schedules each day for R4 and R4e, plus my local BBC station. I find the choice far preferable to some dire TV listings.

We have the radio on whilst preparing the evening meal (Smooth or Planet Rock) and I have it on in the late evening (Classic FM or Radio4Extra).
PS For Pixie's info I am NOT in my 80s - yet! ;)))

Not the radio as such, but I listen to podcasts evey night while I go to sleep, in the middle of the night if I can't sleep, and in the morning as I wake up.

We listen to radio a lot, sometimes for music and sometimes not. The advantage radio has over TV is that you don't have to pay visual attention to the broadcast - it's also a bit like reading in a way, your mind creates scenes. Mind you, I have seen that a lot of people leave the TV on in the background all through the day and evening......a bit like it was a radio.

I have R4 on every morning when I'm getting up and doing my face, including at the weekends and whenever I'm working in the kitchen. I do actually listen and give my full attention to the Archers omnibus on Sunday mornings. In the bathroom it's Wessex FM. Not so much in the car as I prefer CDs - although on the rare occasions I'm driving in the middle of the day I confess to like tuning into Jeremy Vine's phone in opinion show on R2.

I love radio - there is one in every room in the house. I`ve been lucky enough to visit a couple of stations and be in the studio when they were broadcasting and the people that work in that medium are really friendly. Radio is company - it talks to you whereas television is just "there". And I certainly couldn`t drive anywhere without it. I`m a bit lost when I`m in areas with no radio reception - I end up scratching around in the car for CDs.

As many mornings as I can for Bernie Keith on radio Northampton. Radio 4 and 4extra other than that. Catch up with programmes I miss on iPlayer.
TV comes second to radio and neither as background.

I have the radio on all day - unless i'm watching the racing - at home or at work. Radio 2 until noon, then i swerve Vine by tuning in to local station and back to 2 at 2 o'clock. It is mainly background noise to accompany my everyday activities and i couldn't always tell you which song has just been played but, obviously, if a track comes on that i like, i will often turn the volume up a notch or 3. And i'm 64, not 80.

I have just listened to R4e's The Mystery of Edwin Drood and the role of Princess Puffer (who ran an opium house) was played by the marvellous Mary Wimbush - she who was Julia Pargetter-Carmichael. Did you know that Mary died in the studio of The Archers after completing a recording?

Our TV is never on until after 7pm....but the radio is on all day. I bought an internet radio last year and there are 20,000 stations to discover....so we never listen to UK radio at all.

Apart from my own music on PC... I do listen to 'Talksport' alot when busy on computer or taking a break like when on here. I listen more intently though when actually cooking and tottering around my kitchen... I do listen in the morning when getting up more intently and stop what I'm doing if a quiz comes on.
