A long time ago when I watched Coronation Street and EASTENDERS,
Ena sharples and her 2 cronies, Elsie Tanner with her stupid son Dennis,
Angie and Den it was fun and entertaining,
What happened is it because I got old with a victor meldrew complex,?
Or maybe the standard of acting and writing has deteriorated to an extent that they are not worth watching?

I think the acting in Eastenders has got better and it is generally very well cast. The trouble with Coronation St is that they tried to make it 'camp' and the characters aren`t real anymore.

Jordy/anne..........she also knows everything about, fashion, cooking, the Royal family, F1 racing, interior designs, spending money, looking after her husband.........you know, the wife of yesteryear. I went out to earn the money and she always looked immaculate on my return home with a properly prepared meal.

I don`t mean that there are gay characters in there. There are gay characters in Eastenders. It`s just that they camped up the characters which made them OTT (I`m thinking of that man who was a butcher and I think he might have worked behind the bar but I`m not sure as I only glanced at it when my Mum was watching it) - quirky, but not real.

Mamy - could you provide a link to when - quite old episode but a couple were cavorting in bed and the roof collapsed - that I found funny. Can;t remember names but Sherrie Hewson may have been the lady.

I too think the acting in most of the soaps is not too bad - they are coping with very bad script writers.

As Waterboatman aptly describes the TV as the idiot box - he is correct.

jj, I think that was Cilla and Les Battersby. Cilla was a character something like Beth is today ! I still love Corrie and it's the only soap I watch. Yes, it gets daft and boring at times, like how quickly Norris moved out and the new people moved in, it's never that quick in real life - but I still love it !
