Duchy Of Cornwall
41 Answers
Was watching Prince Charles inside the Duchy of Cornwall on Thursday night and from what I can make out, he uses the revenue from that to support himself and Camilla plus the Cambridges and their children and the Sussex's and their child. Do they get money from somewhere else as well? When Charles hands it over to William, will William have to pay for the upkeep of Camilla (if Charles goes first) and also Harry, Meghan and Archie, or will he just have to use it for himself, Kate and their children?

Out of the £22m generated 2017-2018 Charles paid tax after a sum has been allotted for official duties. Then he pays the expenses for Camilla, William and family, Harry and his family for all the official duties, travel expenses, clothes etc. He didn't ask to be born into the Royal Family and as the eldest son of the reigning monarch he holds the title of Duke of Cornwall. The programme about the Duchy of Cornwall was very interesting and his tenants seemed to think very highly of him. He takes a keen interest in their welfare and helps out whenever they have any problems . Charles is definitely not sponging off the UK tax -payers.
Thanks for all that info andres, but it still doesn't answer my question really.
When Charles dies, then William has said he will take over the running of it, but what will the money be spent on?
Will William have to carry on paying Camilla and Harry and his family for their upkeep, or will it just be for William and his family?

Thanks bobbi.
I would think that William will support Camilla, Harry and family, His own children and grandchildren until such time as he dies and then George will be handed the title.
I especially liked the bit in the programme whereby when one shopkeeper was facing a lot of financial difficulties he was given £2,000 to tide him over. As he said --''how many landlords would do that''?
You don't have to be a Royal to inherit the family jewels.Didn't the eldest son in any ordinary family here in the UK in the past always inherit the family estate, house, money etc . .

Andres, I didn't think that William would have to support Camilla because when William becomes Duke of Cornwall, Kate will become Duchess of Cornwall but you think he would have to support his stepmother as well? I would have thought Charles would leave her well provided for? Also, Charles supports his sons, not his brothers and sister, but you think that William will carry on supporting Harry and his family? I've looked online for the answers but haven't been able to find any.
I "think" that the titles and the wealth are separate things. Insofar as the land and wealth is Charles' personal assets he will undoubtedly have it written in trust as to the fact that the trustees will support his widow and potentially Harry etc. These landed families always have really complicated trusts set up.

Prince Charles ( Prince of Wales and Duke of the Duchy of Cornwall) supports his SONS and his WIFE. He does not support his siblings (Anne, Andrew ,Edward, or any of their family.) When Charles becomes King and William becomes the Prince of Wales then William will support his sons and daughter from the profits of the Duchy. He will not support his father ( Charles) nor his fathers wife (Camilla). He will not support his brother (Harry) and SIL (Megan). All the aforementioned have private incomes and I guess handouts from the Royal 'Purse' . The Duchy of Cornwall is a private enterprise worth around £20 billion, owned and managed by the Prince of Wales and linked to the hereditary title of the Duke of Cornwall. If he decides to support his brother Harry that is a private arrangement , though I doubt, the way the land lies between them that he won't, and Harry would not accept it anyway.
