Was watching Prince Charles inside the Duchy of Cornwall on Thursday night and from what I can make out, he uses the revenue from that to support himself and Camilla plus the Cambridges and their children and the Sussex's and their child. Do they get money from somewhere else as well? When Charles hands it over to William, will William have to pay for the upkeep of Camilla (if Charles goes first) and also Harry, Meghan and Archie, or will he just have to use it for himself, Kate and their children?

Barsel I didn’t see it, my OH is strictly anti royal and wouldn’t watch it, it causes much decent here haha, him being ex RAF and me saying he was happy to take the ‘Queens shilling’, he argues back “ I needed a trade, that’s all “

The Duchy of Cornwall was established hundreds of years ago and the income generated goes to the present Duke of Cornwall. Out of the £22m generated 2017-2018 Charles paid tax after a sum has been allotted for official duties. Then he pays the expenses for Camilla, William and family, Harry and his family for all the official duties, travel expenses, clothes etc. He didn't ask to be born into the Royal Family and as the eldest son of the reigning monarch he holds the title of Duke of Cornwall. The programme about the Duchy of Cornwall was very interesting and his tenants seemed to think very highly of him. He takes a keen interest in their welfare and helps out whenever they have any problems . Charles is definitely not sponging off the UK tax -payers.
Well said andres
Derek tonyav not on thread.

Thanks for all that info andres, but it still doesn't answer my question really.
When Charles dies, then William has said he will take over the running of it, but what will the money be spent on?
Will William have to carry on paying Camilla and Harry and his family for their upkeep, or will it just be for William and his family?
Thanks bobbi.
I would think that William will support Camilla, Harry and family, His own children and grandchildren until such time as he dies and then George will be handed the title.
I especially liked the bit in the programme whereby when one shopkeeper was facing a lot of financial difficulties he was given £2,000 to tide him over. As he said --''how many landlords would do that''?
You don't have to be a Royal to inherit the family jewels.Didn't the eldest son in any ordinary family here in the UK in the past always inherit the family estate, house, money etc . .
^^^ Obviously for Harry and family it would be the official duties etc.
If Charles & his ilk fought for their land, wealth & titles I'll fight him for it. Can't say fairer than that!
Davbro, you can’t change history I’m afraid, getting the royals to ‘fight’ for the land they have ?
Just not going to happen

Andres, I didn't think that William would have to support Camilla because when William becomes Duke of Cornwall, Kate will become Duchess of Cornwall but you think he would have to support his stepmother as well? I would have thought Charles would leave her well provided for? Also, Charles supports his sons, not his brothers and sister, but you think that William will carry on supporting Harry and his family? I've looked online for the answers but haven't been able to find any.
I'm not gonna worry about how any of them will 'survive' in future. Bet they don't check check their bank balances with any frequency!
barsel---I have looked as well and all I can find is that although William's family will be well provided for it is assumed that he will see that Harry and family's official duties will be paid for.
I thought that Charles was Prince of Wales!
Bobbie - they have multiple titles. Used to be Prince of Wails!
I thought that the Duke of Cornwall was a secondary title
#dissent#? :-)

Thanks andres. With the obvious discord that is going on with the 2 brothers, I wondered what would happen to Harry and his family if William was able to choose not to support them. Hopefully, Charles will provide for Harry in his will so the taxpayer doesn't have too.
I "think" that the titles and the wealth are separate things. Insofar as the land and wealth is Charles' personal assets he will undoubtedly have it written in trust as to the fact that the trustees will support his widow and potentially Harry etc. These landed families always have really complicated trusts set up.

Prince Charles ( Prince of Wales and Duke of the Duchy of Cornwall) supports his SONS and his WIFE. He does not support his siblings (Anne, Andrew ,Edward, or any of their family.) When Charles becomes King and William becomes the Prince of Wales then William will support his sons and daughter from the profits of the Duchy. He will not support his father ( Charles) nor his fathers wife (Camilla). He will not support his brother (Harry) and SIL (Megan). All the aforementioned have private incomes and I guess handouts from the Royal 'Purse' . The Duchy of Cornwall is a private enterprise worth around £20 billion, owned and managed by the Prince of Wales and linked to the hereditary title of the Duke of Cornwall. If he decides to support his brother Harry that is a private arrangement , though I doubt, the way the land lies between them that he won't, and Harry would not accept it anyway.
