God I hate it when these supposed chefs use their hands and fingers to cook and plate up. Have they never heard of utensils ? How clean do you think their hands are ? I cannot believe they never touch their faces, wiping sweat etc. ( or scratching an itch). Plus their hair all over their faces.

Same in any busy kitchen.
I don't use my fingers in my busy kitchen. It disgusts me too, and chefs should not be allowed to wear beards either.

Really ummmmm ? I never use my fingers and hands to touch my cooking and I am, although I say it myself, a pretty good cook.
One doesn't wear a beard, one sports one with pride.
Do you have a restaurant?
Hmmm...who's going to tell Marcus Waring to shave off his beard...?
That was to Polly...

But are you trying to make your food look like they are expected to? How would you balance your micro herbs?

It just turns me off ummmmm. Having their fingers pressing my fish down in the pan, ( you can use utensils) and putting food on my plate. Nope, I think it's a fad that makes them think they are better cooks than they are.
I don't make a habit of touching my food but I do at times. My hands are always clean though.

What gets me more than anything is when a chef/cook is touching raw meat and then picks up the pepper grinder without washing his/her hands.

Yuggh ummmmm. I agree with you there.
Its when they wipe the spills on the plate with a cloth i hate.
I always think that by the time they’ve finished faffing with it the food is going to be stone cold.
I don't have problems with cooks/chefs touching food but I do have very strict rules about handling raw meat/chicken.
No I don't have a restaurant Ummmmm lol!

There is not need to press food down with your hands and as for micro herbs -well they have oversized tweezers for those essential items of decoration. ;-)
yes Marcus should shave of his beard -it makes him look like Albert Steptoe.
You can tell if something like steak is cooked by touching it.
I was taught to cook with my fingers so that you learn the different textures, our hands are also washed all the time
You can touch the steak with a spatula. Considering all the wrongly cooked steaks I've had in restaurants I think the 'touch' method of cooking a steak doesn't always work.
Ok I can understand some reasons for having to touch food but to scoop up salad in your hands or veggies to put on a plate is just wrong ( in my opinion)
Could somebody who is complaining please explain how they would knead a bread mixture without using their hands?. As long as the cooks hands are clean there is nothing wrong with them touching food.
Best you lot never eat out.
It reminds me of an observation made by a customer to the shop assistant in the Baker's shop. She noticed, in the back of the shop, a great hairy baker with no top on kneading dough in a large basin with perspiration pouring down his face and forearms.
"That is disgusting. I am not sure I wish to purchase anything from this premises", said the customer.
The assistant replied," Suit yourself but if you think that's bad you should see how he makes the rings in the donuts!"
