Has anyone been watching season 3 of The Crown on Netflix? What did you think?
I'm aware this is an unpopular opinion but Olivia Coleman as queen just did not do it for me at all and I was slightly disappointed by the whole season.
I've not seen any of the series but I have seen the publicity shots and whereas the first two who played HM seemed to capture her very well Olivia Coleman doesn't, she looks to have a permanent bad smell under her nose. As I have a free month of Netflix I might binge it.
I agree. Doesn’t have quite the class and finesse of the first two series. Colman is not a patch on Foy as QE2, but far worse is Helena Bonham Carter who’s supposed to be Princess Margaret but just looks like Bonham Carter always does - not an iota of effort made to resemble Margaret. I hope they up their game for Series 4 as I can’t wait to see how they do Lady Di
I've only watched the first two episodes but so far I agree with you GLT. I thought that Olivia Colman "imitated" the Queen rather than making her believable. And Helena BC overplayed Princess M like crazy but looked as if she was enjoying herself anyway !
It seemed a bit soap opera to me but as I say I've only seen 2 episodes. I hope it eventually lives up to the standard of the first 2 series.
i sort of agree with you - i wonder if it's something to do with the stories though rather than the actors? Perhpas 60s/70s was just less interesting than 50s/60s? Also it was interesting seeing the queen "come in" to herself, and negotiate the trickiness of becoming queen, and in this series she's more assured
I've really enjoyed all 3 series so far, though i am on record in an earlier thread as saying i didn't much care for HB-C's portrayal of Margaret. I do like the way in which each episode deals with a much remembered historical event.
Is your friend's name Nia, Bobbisox? She bears a resemblance to the actress who played the character Sylvia Millward, wife of Charles' Welsh tutor Edward Millward.
