Did anyone watch this documentary? For me it was absolutely riveting, such an unusual case and lots of it live from the Scottish Court.

Watched the second of the two episods, and, though I knew the outcome, I found it rivetting. The production of the receipt from the Regent Palace Hotel for when the couple stayed there, written at the same time as the letter purporting to come from Margaret - written on that hotel's notepaper! - was the absolute clincher for me.

LB, I've not been able to find the figure for the majority verdict but unlike English law which allows a majority only as low as 10-2, a simple majority is acceptable under Scots law.

That means it could have been as low as an 8-7 majority.

My understanding is that under Scots Law it needs at least eight jurors to convict a person by majority law. Any less than eight and the accused is acquitted. This means there can never be a hung jury.

And is it a 12 person jury in Scotland Maggie?

15 for criminal trials (but 12 can be allowed if jurors fall ill for example)
12 for civil.
