Women in this program used to be portrayed in such a bad light, at one point a colleague and I thought the writers were complete mysoginists. Nowadays, I think they've got some kind of balance - bearing in mind it could swing one way or another from week to week. The women now seem to be portrayed as quite strong minded. You've got Liz, who's just kicked her husband out for cheating, the girl from the college who's on a campaign to stop date rape, Becca, who seems to get strong and then go feeble again. Mandy has been through the mill, but is portrayed as strong and then you see a vulnerable side. I think all in all, the women are portrayed in a fair way. Obviously this is a soap and storylines are pushed beyond the boundaries of most people's normality, but overall, I think at the moment, they're getting it right.
As for what image this conveys to people, men in particular, I think at the moment, going on recent storylines, women are strong and they're not going to take cr*p from men/parents/tutors etc. Unfortunately, this isn't being conveyed to the thousands of girls who go out every week and think being strong means you can parade around like predatory drunks in 'packs', hold your drink and act like a laddette swearing and shouting at closing time and generally being very un-ladylike.
In conclusion, I think Hollyoaks generally portray women fairly.
i detest liz. dont know why but she just bugs the hell out of me. also are her and justins lawyer related? i think there was a time when it was obvious that all the mums were milfs and all the girls had to be stunning to even be on it but i think its maybe getting a bit better now. i think the girls are pretty good role models and i like the way the programme deals with relevant issues even if they are sometimes a bit mental. i hate andy i hope he gets caught soon little piece of scum.
