I read this in last weekend’s Mail On Sunday, https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8257805/Have-clocked-Ben-Shephards-watch-obsession.html Even now, he’s still showing off his watch on GMB. Do you think he should be allowed to, or do you think is a case of a celebrity taking advantage of his job on tv?

It seems to be a lot of fuss about nothing to me.

To people who love watches (like me), those prices aren't particular expensive. If I ever get a decent win on the lottery, the Patek Philippe watch I've had my eye on for many years will set me back about a quarter of a million quid. Bremont watches are nearly as naff as the dreaded (and much over-hyped) Rolex ones are.

I’m not sure what point is trying to be made here. Every match official, manager / coach was given a Hublot for the last World Cup and asked to wear them pitchside. Sponsorship happens in all societies.

Does anyone really care obviously, apart from the MOS? I wouldn't have known the cost of it anyway. Just looks like a regular watch to me and not something that costs thousands.

I too haven't worn a watch since having a mobile.

Just can't get uptight about watches. Tells the time, waterproof and readable. That's enough. I'm lucky in that the one I wear is also solar and so never needs a new battery. And yes, I did choose and buy it.

My brother in law is watch mad, he has loads of them! Keeps buying more on-line. He calls it his 'hobby'! I always wear a watch, a lovely one Mum and Dad bought me.

Something I could never understand - as long as they tell the time what is the difference between paying a few quid and hundreds of thousands? Its exactly the same time.

^^it's called "choice"...you pays your money and takes your choice.
(Same reason some spend 200k on a car when a 10k one does the same basic job.)

I don’t get it, myself. I have a watch from a well-known brand that is fairly ‘luxurious’, but I don’t think anyone really notices it. It’s certainly not an eye-watering amount of money, like the ones in the Esquire link.

I suppose the gap between one of those and a Timex is the same as the difference between an Armani shirt and a Primark top.

I think it’s a bit naff to flaunt it like Shephard does, though.
