Webcams

I need a webcam that works in Windows ten(v.1909)installed,as cheap as chips!
I've already bought two in the past 3years and none of them work since operating systems were upgraded to 1909 (no trouble with 1803). The Microsoft Lifecam HD-3000 and the Logitech C170 - both bought in good faith off a 'pukka' dealer and in the case of the Lifecam, was informed it was compatible with Windows Ten!!
It could be a 'blockage' somewhere in the system, 'cos neither work with Zoom either- but, both did work perfectly last year with no problems.
Any suggestions please?

Grandpappy, I’ve just bought one that I’ll be sending back to amazon because my computer died on me and the monit I bought was just a display so that went back too, I’ve now got one with a built in mic and camera , I’d show you what I got but it may go straight to my Amazon account which I don’t want to happen?

It looks like you might need to install the Windows 7 driver to get the HD-3000 to work and then use Compatibility Mode:

[NB: Pay particular attention to the section headed "How to update camera driver using Device Manager". That might well solve your problems with both of your existing webcams]

If you find yourself forced to buy a new webcam though, I'd advise avoiding anything branded by Microsoft. That's not particularly because of poor product quality. (Microsoft-branded mice and keyboards can, for example, be remarkably good value for your money). It's simply because trying to get any type of meaningful support from Microsoft is a nigh-impossible task. So the Logitech C270 might be a better buy:

^^^ The webcam recommended by Jim features well on most trustworthy review sites. However, even if we ignore its much higher price than the other webcams featured on this thread, I see the dreaded words 'temporarily out of stock' appearing in his link.

There has been a massive increase in demand for webcams since the surge in use of Zoom (et al), so finding any reasonably-priced webcam in stock (from a reputable source) is going to present quite a challenge at the moment.

"I don't believe it"! - I could aquire a radio during the war quicker and easier than a Logitech C270 webcam. Even Logitech don't have any!!
My experience makes me hesitant about buying an expensive (?) webcam because of the compatability issues.
Looks like the drums on the front garden,again. The neighbours hate me,especially when I stay up late!

Do try the driver update mentioned in my second link at 1702 though. [NB: I suggest restarting your computer after doing so, before trying out the cameras]. You never know, it might work!

Buenchico//several hours & lots of trials have driven me to try something different!
Will I cause more problems ?by removing the latest update (1909)and then try to get this (any) camera working?

The 1909 update is (as the numbering suggests) from September last year, so I'm surprised that it's showing as the latest update on your system. If you're feeling brave you could click 'Check for updates' to see if moving forwards in the update process will help you but, given the number of reports of major problems with the most recent updates with Windows 10, I wouldn't advise it.

Uninstalling 1909 could be worth a try though - and it shouldn't cause any harm to your system.

But what do I know anyway? I'm still using Windows 7 (and definitely not regretting it!)

You will need to sort out your settings Pappy....Probably in settings/ privacy.
Press the windows key on the keyboard. Click on the little cog wheel that pops up and says settings. Click on "privacy" in the menu. Scroll down and click on camera. Where is says allow apps to access your camera turn it on. Then scroll through the lists and turn on all the Microsoft store and desktop apps that are listed and that you want to perhaps use a camera with.
