I am more than happy to acknowledge that I am now of an age where I no longer form part of the demographic that the majority of prime time television is aimed at.
Part of the penalty to be paid for edging out of said demographic, is being confronted with entertainment that is aimed fairly and squarely and another market - usually younger or much younger than I am.
I am equally able to say - This is not aimed at me, so I'm fine with that, because I can usually recognise the audience being hopefully attracted by a new format.
But honestly, I am mystified as you who would really be attracted to this particular output.
I watched the second episode, and was treated to Lain Gallagher being what he always is - an inarticulate foul-mouthed boring yob, unable to realise that the rictus grins and forced laughter of Mr Crouch and associate were not genuine, but were the televisual equivalent of rabbits caught in car headlights.
Add in the pointless and uncomfortable mis-cast Alex Horne, and the said associate apparently having her knees up inside her dress for the duration, and I can't see this making the end of its run, much less being re-commissioned.

Clearly you know little on the topic. He's the creator and co-host of Taskmaster, so he isn't behind the scene. He's also leader of the comedy music combo The Horne Section, who vary from eye wateringly funny, to simply eye watering. I'd suggest judging anyone on appearing on a substandard variety show, which sounds unsalvageable by the brightest of comics, to be a tad harsh.

I'm not sure to which 'topic' you are referring.
If it's the 'topic' of television comedy, I am willing to bet I have watched several thousand hours more than you of that format, so I certainly know a fair bit about it.

If it's Mr Horne's work with his combo, as I mentioned, I have watched the many times on Eight Out Of Ten Cats Does Countdown and found his band competent, his delivery nervous, and his humour smile-provoking at best, so I cannot share your laudatory comments, but that is entirely a matter of differing personal taste.
And as my post points out, I believe both Mr Crouch and Mr Horne to be seriously miscast, which does not denigrate their specific abilities, but points to the fact that show is ill-conceived, rather than their particular failure to deliver it well.

I believe that an individual's talent can only show through if they are given a platform that actually demonstrates that talent - and that is the thrust of the issue here.
Mr Crouch and Mr Horne are without doubt talented, but this show does not use their talents in any meaningful way at all, much less to show them off at their best.
The screens are littered with examples where people have been plucked from their area of expertise, and plonked into another area where not only is their expertise not shown, but the are given formats that are utterly beyond their individual skill sets, and they flounder and fail until the programme makers gradually realise their error and take them off screen.
An example of that is athlete Kriss Akabusi - clearly a peerless athlete, and one of the best in his field, but on television, reduced to an annoyingly shallow personality vacuum known mainly for his membership of the school of pointless mirth.
