They've commenced filming series 6 now. Saw some on-set tweets from Vicky McClure a couple of days ago :o)

You need to watch them all and in order, I started watching when Series 5 was on TV, very confusing, I've since binged in 1-4! Well worth the effort.

I've just watched series 1-5 even though I watched them when they were first on. Surprising some of the things you forget, but also, well worth watching again. Can't wait for series 6.

I watched series 5 first and I don’t think it adversely affected my understanding, although plainly better to have some “previous”.
It still felt like a series slowly disappearing up its own fundament I have to say. Addictive tho partially for that reason

although I liked it, it did seem rather flimsy in series 5 they are basing their deductions about "h" and there being 4 people to weed out on the twitching of a hand when someone was dying!
