Two Very Different Films To

watch out for on BBC i player, don't know how long they will be on for but
the first was Molly's Game a true story about a woman who heads up
poker games and the consequences of it, involving some say royalty, big name Hollywood stars
and other high roller gamblers.
the second film was the hard to watch but excellent
The Railway Man, another true story about Eric Lomax a POW in a Japanese camp and the torture he and others endured building the railways, its has a remarkable cathartic ending

i read the book by Lomax which was harrowing, and the film pulls no punches in it's depiction of the torture of prisoners of war

the really good thing about Molly's Game is it's written and directed by Aaron Sorkin the creator of The West Wing.

shame as its well written and brilliantly acted, very fast paced and one has to concentrate to keep up

I watched The Railway Man recently. It was nice they became friends. It was certainly dumbed down though.

The other one doesn't appeal to me either.

i thought that it was tough to watch the torture scenes, why they became friends is a mystery to me.

It's so easy for a human being to become desensitised.

i don't think many POW's in Japanese camps could be so forgiving.. i know i wouldn't.

I'm doing a Tesco shop now and loading it with seafood. We had fish pie for dinner last night. It was lush.

Same as others emmie, the first one doesn't appeal, but I have watched The Railway Man and had mixed feelings about it.

Re: The Railway Man. I found the book more harrowing than the film, particularly the passages where the torture is explained. I was actually swearing as i read the words.
I keep 'swiping' past the other film, Molly's Game, whenever i'm browsing what to watch next. I will get around to it - just a matter of being in the right mood.

The FEPOWs were terribly badly treated
Even the internees ( civilain women and kids - tenko that lot) had a helluva time
