tv drama with Tom Hollander and Saskia Reeves on Sunday BBC1 9pm
is excellent with a stellar cast, from a book by David Nicholls,
its tells the story of a family and their trials and tribulations, its not dull
but quick witted, poignant, and sad, all rolled in to one.

I watched dome of it but in spite of a good cast it wasn't for me. It was neither a comedy or a drama and even with comedy I have to have some belief in the characters. I agree about the actor playing the young Tom Hollander - uncanny - he'd got the mannerisms and speech patterns to a T.

I gave it a half hour before deciding it wasn't for me. If i'm not a little intrigued after 20 - 30 mins, then it's a 'no'. I love drama and i don't mind comedy thrown in the mix (Shameless, No Offence, etc) but, imho, this was neither and i found it terribly dull.

I really enjoyed the book.
The tv drama is a bit lacklustre but I’ll probably stick with it.

Found this really lame, unfunny and unmoving. It's based on an unbelievable premise: would his wife suddenly announce that she wanted to separate, but they go on a round-Europe trip with their sulky, entitled son anyway? None of it rang true, and the dialogue was stilted, the situations forced.

I love this. The wife announced she wants to separate, a decision I'm sure she made after maybe years of joylessness. The fact their only son is going off to Uni in September has probably pushed her into announcing this to her husband. She explains how she has had her life on hold for years and now feels like she wants to do something for herself, and also, she feels her work is done regarding bring up her son (which of course it isn't) The narrative explains quite well the decision to go ahead with the holiday and I don't think the scenario is unbelievable. I would guess many women in lacklustre marriages feel the same way when the youngest child flies the nest, and this explores those feelings.

I liked it. Some parts were quite boring. Nice ending.

I would class it as a housework series. You resume on coffee breaks.
