ok just found this: To turn PIN protection on or off for pre-watershed shows: Press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Settings, then Parental. Enter your Sky TV PIN. Select Family, then PIN on pre-watershed playback. Select On to PIN-protect rated shows before the watershed, or Off to remove the need for a PIN.

on my virgin I have to put in a pin if it was on after 9pm
That is standard with Sky I believe, I can't figure out how to turn it off anyway! If you haven't set one then the PIN is usually 1234
If you watch something before the watershed that's rated to be shown after the watershed it asks for a PIN. I don't think you can turn that off, see if it asks you after 9pm.
I watch programmes on Sky one and Sky Witness (through Virgin) any most times I have to insert my pin number.I think it may be something to do with content of the programmes and child control.

TTT, won't that only affect programmes before 9pm(watershed)
Re the above:
You should note that, even with the parental controls disabled (as per TTT's link), you'll probably still be asked to enter your PIN occasionally. (It's a bit like sometimes being required to use chip-&-pin when you try to use a contactless debit card). It's necessary in order to ensure that Sky is fully compliant with Ofcom rules:

Yup - but programmes after 9pm aren't subject to the PIN requirement anyway.
danny, 14:29 yes I think that's the idea, I suspect the OP is trying to watch something before 9 that is rated after watershed only.
But you do need to enter a PIN to watch a programme before 9pm, which aired after 9pm.
I'm not sure, but I think if your Sky box isn't connected to the internet then you can't override the pre-watershed PIN rule. i.e. your Sky box must be connected to the internet for TTT's instructions to work.
2 months ago Sky started showing post-watershed programmes on mainstream channels during daytime. The first week-long trial elicited many complaints and was abruptly ended before being reintroduced a few weeks later. Ofcom rules mandate a non-overrideble PIN for such broadcasts.
