Region One playback?

Greetings. I have just bought a multi-region Panasonic DVD s27, which has been chipped to play multi-region dvds. I've seen that the American Lost DVD series comes in one part, not the two that we have to put up with. Yet I'm really unsure about playback, as the DVD is NTSC encoded. Will my DVD player, and my Goodmans Widescreen TV be able to play the Region One Lost series? I have heard that NTSC dvds pla speeded-up on British TVs, and therefore would not be a good choice of Christams present for my girlfriend!

I've had three multiregion DVD players and I've never noticed any difference playing Region 1 DVDs. If your DVD player is a proper PAL system then the region coding has simply been unlocked and therefore NTSC shouldn't make any difference.

Have you a Region 1 DVD you can try on it?

NTSC runs as 30 frames per second whereas PAL runs at 25 frames per second.

When your DVD player plays the region one disc, it will play it at 30 frames per second ( so basically normal speed ), it will not be sped up.

I noticed that the region 2 release of the TV series Charlies Angels was released here as NTSC ( obviously just a region 2 release of the American Master ).

why get it chipped when you can find the hack code on the web and get it to be multiregion DVD player for free?

Your DVD player has a setting to output NTSC encoded DVDs either at the original NTSC frame rate (29.97 fps) for which you require an NTSC compatible TV, or to convert it to 'pseudo-PAL' (using 25 fps) which is compatible with PAL TVs.

The speeding up issue occurs on PAL encoded DVDs of cinefilm shot at 24 fps because there is little point in trying to convert 24 fps to 25 fps, the end result being PAL plays 4% faster than the same film at a cinema.

I haven't got any region one dvd's yet - only bought the player last week - so think I will risk it and go for the region one Lost series that I saw on cdwow, as the advice here seems to be pointing me to that.

Spaced, I bought the player from richersounds - the panasonic s27 does not have a region hack, at least not that i could find, and my local shop were selling pre-chipped new players for �40 (they said they contracted out to some supplier which does the chips). Seemed like a good deal, and it's playing everything fine so far.

Just a note, I had bought a multi region dvd from Richer Sounds a couple of years ago, but had never used the access code, I'd had no need. But having been desperate to see all of Lost ASAP I bought the Region 1 Disc. The access instructions given with the player wouldn't work. A quick search on the web found that instead of pressing 'enter', 'stop' should be pressed. Now DVD player set on all regions and I haven't had any problems.

Enjoy the rest of Lost, just don't expect any answers!

well i have all the dvds and have watched all of lost right to end of season 2 all ntsc but mine are downloaded and no region stuff on them
