I liked the Vicar of Dibley but if I watch comedy I don’t want to be reminded of Covid, BLM, the ridiculous 'woke' ritual of 'Taking the Knee', or any of the other rubbish we’ve had to endure throughout this awful year. I want to be entertained - so I won’t be watching.

Ken, you seem to miss the point about what BLM actually stands for.
I read about this yesterday and my first thought was, well that's me not watching, and I've not changed my mind!
shame as VofD was very funny, and non political
Khandro, no i don't. The majority of those taking the knee are not advocating defunding of the police or rioting. Just the sinister few who have hijacked the BLM movement to their own ends.
In case you are not sure Ken, It has a severe Marxist agenda: " we disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear-family-structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and ‘villages’ that collectively care for one another.”

A partner organization, the Movement for Black Lives, or M4BL, calls for abolishing all police and all prisons. It also calls for a “progressive restructuring of tax codes at the local, state and federal levels to ensure a radical and sustainable redistribution of wealth.”

Another demand is “the retroactive decriminalization, immediate release and record expungement of all drug-related offenses and prostitution and reparations for the devastating impact of the ‘war on drugs’ and criminalization of prostitution.”

Then there's the charming idea of de-funding the police & calls for compensation for slavery.
Yes emmie, I was quite looking forward to watching it over the festive period and then I saw the picture of her 'taking the knee'. Going too far now in my opinion.

The BBC dabbling in Dibley , sighhhhh
I’m with Ken. I’ll watch it because I usually enjoy watching Dawn French in most things, and The Vicar of Dibbly is funny.
And then I’ll make my mind up about it.

Vagus my opinion is that political statements have no place in light comedy ..but this is only my opinion
comedy has thrown up some hand grenades in the past Bobbi, maybe not light entertainment but there have been politcial comedians for years. One doesn't as they say have to watch, i was quitie looking forward to it to be fair
Of course bobbi, and we’re all entitled to our opinion. Even you ;)
My feeling is it would be a shame to miss out on a potentially funny programme just because there’s a bit of it you don’t like or agree with.
Telly has been so full of repeats and rehashes, it may make a bit of an interesting change.

Me too Emmie, she's a very funny lady, who can forget when she disappeared down a puddle haha
Question Author
Absolutely Vagus , perhaps they shouldn't have put it 'out there' first ?
It isn't a programme I watch although I gather from what you are saying it's a comedy programme. perhaps the BLM sketch might be part of the comedy ? Perhaps she gets down on one knee and can't get up again, or something similar.
From the link provided...

//"Audiences understand the difference between news and comedy content and the sermons do not breach the BBC's impartiality guidelines."//

They seem to have got that wrong with some obviously.

I'll bet the sections on lockdown, virtual quizzing and too much alcohol will be funny too.

The show has been in bother before, I hope there isn't a concerted campaign to get it in hot water again but am sure the writers will cope.
They're repeating Vicar of Dibley as well! There are only about 10 minutes of the new ones.
it has always been "political" hasn't it?
In the sense that it tackled the issue of women in the clergy and the battle they face.
I remember in the very first episode when they wrote to the bishop asking for a woman not to be foisted on them
Question Author
Yes I read that ILM, I wonder why?
Barsel, no, she's taking it seriously.
Perhaps she didn't want to do a full series Bobbi.
