I have never understood why simply being married to a soldier somehow qualifies anyone to be a singer.

Ditto being a priest, a fisherman, or anything else.

I don't think it matters if all these people can really sing or not. The idea is that singing makes you feel better and getting together with like minded people helps health and well being.

It wasn't anything to do with being able to sing though, the whole concept arose out of bringing together a group of women who were suffering the trials of being alone while their husbands were away in Afghanistan and trying to give them some collective support through singing as a choir. Don't forget it is based on a true story and is meant to be uplifting.

Prudie - I get the idea, but that just makes it a support group for wives bonded by a common experience.

What I don't get is how that morphs into records and concerns, which does need a level of ability to justify getting payment, and how that leads on to other groups with no support angle, like fishermen and priests making records.

I haven’t watched it - not my soort of thing - but being married to a soldier doesn’t qualify anyone as a singer. As with all novelty acts, this is what they are. Like the old boy who once won Britain’s Got Talent. Not star quality - just a novelty - and novelties often sell - for a short time.
