If I knew the lead character in this (who was acquitted of murder thanks to a photo that proved the lead character was innocent [after being wrongly jailed], and never charged/tried for any sex offences involving any of her pupils), I’d treat her with kindness and respect.

It seems quite unbelievable how the other characters are ill-treating her - as if she’d been proven to be guilty!!

It’s also odd that (as at the end of E1), there is no explanation as to why the photo that cleared her was not produced at her original trial.

Shame as the bulk of the story telling is good.

Much as we see on boards such as this and Social Media, people are very happy to believe unproven allegations especially of a sexual nature.

Five minutes into the opening of Ep 1 it was explained that the police were so sure they had the culprit that they did not go looking to disprove the circumstantial evidence of her whereabouts at the time of the murder (i.e. she being in the town centre, not the crime scene).

The photo placing her in town did not emerge until three years after the trial when her friend, the editor of a local newspaper, helped in her campaign to prove her innocence.

We also haven't been told what the evidence was that implicated her in the murder of the 16-year-old pupil. It seemed to have been all about whether or not she was sleeping with him. Do we even know how he died?

Also it's set in Keswick, the lake district but no one has a local accent.

The editor of her local newspaper appeared to be the only person who believed in her innocence and continued to investigate the case long after the lead had been sentenced. It was she who discovered the photograph.
Tamaris, if any of the cast had tried to affect a Keswick accent and failed, they would have drawn flak from all quarters.

What's amazing me is how much has been discivered since she was released that wasn't discovered at the time, it seems to have been a very sloppy investigation. The 'witness', the pollarding of the trees, the Doctor's new input surely could have been found at the time.

Sometimes, even in real life, Zebo, police investigations are not always carried out diligently. It only takes the lead detective to get a 'bee in his bonnet' about a certain suspect, and the enquiry can go down totally the wrong route. Everyone believed the young student when she said she saw the teacher and the deceased kissing.
Just look at how much faith was put into the Yorkshire Ripper being a Geordie because of those tapes.

Ken, you're right. There was a programme on a few years ago but I can't remember which case it was, but the boss man said who he thought had done it, but the others didn't but were to afraid to approach the boss because he was so unapproachable.
