the external shots were Bristol.
The inside of the flat is a set inside a studio
'Filmed in front of a live audience' simply means that an audience is watching the acting live inside the studio - it doesn't mean that we see everything they saw. It's not done in one take. The studio watches outside recording on a monitor.
There is still a lot of retakes and then the filming is edited before it is broadcast. It can take hours to record a half hour show.
Years ago I went to the BBC studios to see the filming of Mother Nature's Son, the Peckham Spring Water eoisode. It was a brilliant experience and actually came away with one of the bottles from the show.
I could watch them over and over lol. Never fail to make me laugh.
How long did the filming take, loooby?
Oh crikey Barry, I can't remember it was that long ago.. it was probably 2ish hours, give or take. A big chunk of the episode was already pre filmed, like scenes at the allotment etc, and at The Grand Hotel in Brighton at the end.
We were sat on the front row, and any time Del or Rodney weren't needed in the scene, they came and stood right by us.
I particularly remember the scene where Del is in the kitchen cooking bacon, talking to Rodney, and they had to do a fair few retakes, putting the bacon bacon back in the frying pan, as Del kept fluffing his lines.
it really was good ... but saying that though, whenever I watched Mother Nature's Son on the tv afterwards, for a short while it kind of 'spoilt' it a little bit, you know having seen 'their flat' as just a set, and not on the 12th floor of Nelson Mandela House, where I still wanted to believe it was! lol.
I can understand that, loooby. A friend of mine had been a huge fan of Countdown since its first episode and hasn't been able to watch it since he was a contestant. He felt very let down by Richard and Carol as they weren't at all friendly away from the cameras.
