Someone made a point about this clip - you can tell it was a long time ago because it is on mainstream television, and Mr Brando is being allowed time to finish what he is saying.

I remember the furore at the time, Ms Littlefeather was condemned as everything from an actress to a stripper (!) - in fact she was, and still is an a Native American activist, currently in very poor health due to longstanding lung problems originating in childhood.

Yes, but you and I know that each generation 'invents' everything that impacts directly upon them, including a sense of social concience.

We did it, they are doing it, no doubt the next lot in line will do it as well - it's human nature.

Indeed, but the current stratospheric levels of self-righteousness combined with a vicious streak in condemning other views is a product entirely of social media, and that is a backward step in my view.

Pixie, it was around the time of The Godfather (I'm pretty sure, without watching the vid, that the award was for that movie). He was a method actor, so he might've still been in Don Corleone mode! Just be thankful it wasn't for Last Tango in Paris! ;-)

pix - He was a seriously fine actor in his day - check out 'On The Waterfront' to see just how powerful a screen presence he was.

He was one of the first actors to use 'method acting' - the immersion of the actor into his character, followed by people like Hoffman and DeNero.

The style was developed by Lee Strasberg in his acting school in the 1930's - Strasberg played Hyman Roth in The Godfather 2.

Andy, to my generation, he'll always be Superman's dad! I remember seeing him in A Dry White Season in my teens. He was an old, overweight man by then, but he was electric.

He will, and that's a shame becuase he was well past it, and he knew it.

He screwed a phenomenal fee out of the producers who wanted his name to give the film some gravitas, so he trousered the money, phoned in his performance, and probably couldn't care less at the damage it did to his reputation as one of the greatest actors ever to grace a cinema screen.

The fight for proper recognition of native Americans began long before Brando. He was renowned for his interest in it. I don’t think he tore down statues though or tried to silence people who didn’t agree with him so he had a very long way to go before he could ever have claimed to be ‘Woke’.
