Just watching the film now - have never seen it before. For its time(1956) what an incredible film! The costumes, the music, the settings……… utterly enchanting x
There is a very interesting character in that film - the chap who plays Passepartout.
Cantinflas was a Mexican comedian and actor, hugely famous in Mexico and Spanish speaking countries. Nice to see him in such a widely popular film
I still was stunned at the sheer scale of the film! All the characters, sets of different countries etc……… costumes….. Rey few films have me gripped like that. Put a lot of modern films to shame tbh
yeah stunning film from the era when cinema was in a pitched battle with the up and coming TV, huge budgets magnificent scenery and costumes, a delight to watch. Loved picking out Noel Coward and Sir John Gielgud etc thoroughly enjoyable.
it was filmed in Todd AO, a widescreen process invented by the director, Mike Todd. He was famous for being the only husband Elizabeth Taylor didn't divorce (because he died in a plane crash).
there was supposed to be a pre WW1 version as well though I can't find anything about it. No doubt one of the 90% of all silent films that have vanished.
