Alleys in London. Sally, Sally pride of ..............
Ohhhh I had used to enjoy a good ginnel in my youth ;-)
Bet you did Tony!! :-)
;-)
We call it entrys
LOL, so did we jj.
We called it the back entry because you could get into the back of your house.
Glad Mary didn't say she fancied a snog up the back entry though!
LOL.
Just the alley or back alley in the NE. With no gardens housewives would string their washing out in the back alley, only to have to retrieve it rapidly when the coalman was delivering.
A lonning in the NW
Remember that well Jack, us children had to run up and down the cobbled back street alerting everyone to get their washing in.
That's quite Cumbrian Tamaris isn't it?
Blimey I remember the coalman in his wagon, proper work back then, those sacks must have been heavy carrying them many times a day from wagon to coalhouse all day long, must have taken an hour to wash that coaldust out of your skin at knocking off time.
We also called it an entry. For a while I was a coalman.
It was the hardest job I’ve ever done. Fill sacks, load wagon double stacking, drive lorry, deliver coal round, carry sacks 1/2 hundredweight to customers coal bin. Then repeat process. Two loads a day. After work. My wife used to hose me down in the back garden. Perks...free coal.
Tonyav, the coalmen round here still deliver coal like that
It is Mammy x

A ginnel here in Burnley-by-the -Leeds/Liverpool
A ginnel here is a narrow passage between two terraced houses . Often the upper floor of one of the houses will go over the top of the ginnel enclosing it in .
Todd as had a few good one liners recently. There was the scene with he's partner Billy recently discussing eating a juicy orange like citrus fruit and Todd asks "Who wants a gob full of kumquat". Surely was deliberate
