I suspect Sky want to move away from beaming the signal from a geostationary satellite – they are expensive to build and launch. I believe Sky has a redundant spare satellite up in space (just in case the first fails).
They are not going to want to go to the expense of building a launching another pair of satellites if they can avoid it.

I must admit I'm struggling to see what this is really offering.
Also at £1049 for a 65" apparently with a soundbar what it will really be like. My Android Sony was thick end of 3K and the Soundbar over £1K, will this perform like that does? And just what extra will it give me (given I dont watch live TV as I wont pay the TV Tax to fund the lefties at the BBC)

Sky UIs have always been crap.
This sounds like a very poor deal.
Most Smart TVs have a built in app store to run Amazon, Netflix, AppleTV and Disney. No one has multiple boxes anymore. Virgin offers a cable service that means you do not need a disk.
SKY Glass fixes a problem that no longer exists. Definitely not for me.
