I couldn't see the point of it, except that it might have been an attempt to embarrass "The Establishment". There was nothing new. We are all aware now of the extent of Saviles' offending, so what the point of this programme?

^^ what was the point ^^
Didn't watch it but I can say that a lot of people overlooked what he was doing - there is no way he carried out the number of assaults that he did without there being knowledge.
I stumbled across it and watched for a bit until it turned my stomach. It was when the lady in the wheelchair was speaking and she detailed what he did to her as a young girl. Vile, disgusting creep !
He was never found guilty in a Court of Law, so perhaps "the point of the programme" was to re-inforce his seemingly obvious guilt.

And to deter similar future cover-ups?

You could be right Canary, so why didn't the programme makers say that? I thought it was an attempt to embarrass Prince Charles.
so people like you have something to watchh and moan about?
I was concerned about how they brought Prince Charles into it as well. Underhand imo ....
I can't watch anything like that. It makes me sick.
No, couldn't see the point of it.
As soon as I saw it come up AVOID!!!! came to mind and we did
I didn't watch it but may do later.

John Lydon said he knew what was going on many years ago but he was silenced.
Helen, people can know something without being able to prove it. People in the public eye attract attention seekers who will accuse them of all sorts of things - and even report fictional events to the police, social workers, MPs.
Chinese whispers don't count for anything and sadly it is only in very recent years that children have been properly listened to when reporting sexual offences.

Anyone who did know for a fact because they witnessed an offence that Savile committed but didn't report is also guilty in my opinion.
Who silenced him - and how did they do it?
John Lydon said "Saville was "into all sorts of seediness. We all know about it but we’re not allowed to talk about it. I know some rumours.”

It seems to me he didn't know anything
Naomi, Lydon claims he was banned from the BBC radio for saying that in an interview although he was never told that was the reason for the ban.
If the BBC banned him I can't see how they could stop him. But ... with no proof who would believe him? The whole thing stinks - and that's an understatement.
I can't watch anything like that. It makes me sick.
didnt someone point out that if someone didnt see a prgram they cant comment
only trying to help
I of course am not bound by such high-minded * moral strictures

why did they show when it wasnt news?

well why do they have news programs when there isnt news
( Good Friday 1928 - there is no news today, and now we have.....)

* high minded, inspirational, wise, widely applicable, useful.... words fail me to describe....

Booth Hall matron refused to have that man again - altho there is one claimant I notice
( Boof orl, where dat den etc) etc
Lydon only "knew" anything because he heard rumours.
Why would anyone want to watch anything concerned with that monster? His mere image turns my stomach.
