Jno - I went to see 'Cats' in Edinburgh years ago and the first half was boring. The second half was better. I was underwhelmed!

whereas in other cases - one ( you or I ) remember strenuous efforts to put someone off something

and you ( or I ) think - dunno why they didnt like and by god they didnt - I always thought there was something in it

it is ( this production ) is very visual - the arresting guard detachment end of act 1 are doing a dance routine with chairs
and those without chairs are going a hand-jive

Went to see the Barber of Seville with a friend just before lockdown. Was bored out of my skull. Also saw Cats (on film) and fell asleep.

I highly recommend opera in Verona. The ancient Roman arena is vast, as is the stage, and the productions are spectacular, but don't buy the cheap seats. You'll be doing a free for all for a space on the steep, hot stone steps - and health & safety isn't a consideration. We were regulars in the good seats… before Covid.
