How far if at all did this get into the planning stage. I heard that there was a script written but nothing else. Bill Murray is getting too pricey I expect as well as piling on the years. Harold Ramis last time I saw was piling on the pounds. Dan Ackroyd, theres 'where is he' question in its self and I'm sure Ernie Hudson could do with the cash.

yeah not sure if its really worth it. The first film is a classic and the second was good too, I think if they made a third now it would attract alot of attention and audiences but would fail to capture the spirit (no pun intended) and die on it's arse.

I heard about GB3 years ago. Last I heard that the script was being compiled by Ackroyd and Ramis and also to be directed by Ackroyd himself instead of the original director, Ivan Reitman. Personally I think the idea is being scrapped completely as I have heard no news since.

I don't feel it would work out either - being 17 years since the feeble sequal and re-uniting the ageing original cast once again, would anyone really be interested .....? The original Ghostbusters was a classic 80's comedy and should be left as it is well known for.

This is from Empire Magazine:

Once again, Hollywood is prepping up a script so the film-going nation knows exactly who to call when the ghosts hit town, and once again it's going to be the Ghostbusters.

With the script in development, Harold Ramis, who starred and co-wrote the 1984 original movie, has said the film will involve the original cast (Ramis, Aykroyd and Bill Murray) coming out of retirement to tutor a new set of rookie Ghostbusters. Their mission? To banish the world of a mass poltergeist plague upon Hell's declaration that, much to the disdain of evil ghosts the world over, it simply has 'no vacancies' in the 21st century.

Ramis also stated that some of Hollywood's hottest young stars are to be approached for the film, which has Columbia Pictures once again producing. The inclusion of Bill Murray - hot property again after his performance in Rushmore - will also undoubtedly aid a speedy path through the reels of red tape which so often impedes other projects.

There was an interview with Harold Ramis on Aintitcool.com recently, where he said that GB3 was "Ghostbusters go to hell". Hell is a parody of New York, and Heaven is in New Jersey across the George Washington Bridge.

He also said that when thiis script was being discussed. a "Ghostbusters: The Next Generation" cast was one idea, with Ben Stiller and Chris Rock beuing his choices.

That would be great if Ghostbusters would return with as a brand new trio.
