Storyline and songs are ok. It is all the strange colour effects that spoil it for me. Not a big musicals fan at the best of times but I will have to sit through a lot during my mum's visit. I have most of the biggies on dvd to keep her occupied. Can't watch Carousel though, YNWA has far too many associations for me.
So glad many of you enjoyed it as I did. I can't think of one song in the whole show that I didn't like. I remember as a kid, my Mum and Dad had the LP and that makes it even more special for me, as they loved it too. Thanks for your replies folks.
more musicals on today wednesday afternoon BBC2, starting with
Kiss Me Kate, at 13.55 pm, a lovely film with Howard Keel and then there is Guys and Dolls, another fine musical...
what will you be watching..
Yes I watched it for the first time in years and thoroughly enjoyed it. I remember thinking Lt Cable was so gorgeous looking when I first saw it, he was still as attractive to me many years later. Beautiful songs, Younger than Springtime my favourite (although Carousel has always been my favourite of those old musicals).
Prudie I like Carousel too, but South Pacific has the edge for me. Younger than Springtime is such a beautiful song and ties with Some Enchanted Evening for me. So sad that Joe Cable died !
emmie I want to watch West Side Story as I believe that's on over Christmas as well.
