To hide the bags under her eyes? I thought she was awful with her mid Atlantic accent and yet another rendition of Shout. Mini rant over, sorry :-)
I suppose it's kept her in bannocks and Crowdie all these years.
I've no idea about the glasses & didn't care. I thought she was excellent, as was almost all of the show - I didn't bother with the clips from Craig David or Primal Scream & didn't really care for Jim Moir.
He often has her on , but at 70+ she shouldn’t be regurgitating Shout , I never watch JH , I know he’s a talented jazz pianist but for some reason he reminds me of Richard O’Brien when he did the Crystal Maze, not looks but his actions
Lulu was ok...her voice isn't as powerful as it once was.
The show was a bit disappointing...not so many new and unusual acts as in the past.
I don't watch it for Jools...I watch it for discovering new sounds.
I wondered that. She'd probably had another face lift!!!
She didn't have them on at the end of the show.
I wondered why Vic Reeves was on being terrible. Then Lulu was on being not very good, and realised it was in her contract that someone terrible had to go on before her to make her look good.

Thought the whole show was average and needs canceling.
The only good acts were Rag'n Bone Man and Ed Sheeran. We only watched because all other New Years Eve TV was awful.

Vic Reeves was dreadful and embarrassing and I can't stand listening to Jool's shouty awful voice.
I must say I was disappointed this year with the line up. It's beginning to feature the same ole people!
I used to watch JH for new acts. I have seen him at live events a couple of times when I had free tickets, but never liked him because of his presentation and his style of music. Also can't stand Ruby Turner and all that gospel style singing from backing singers that all look like Ruby Turner.
Gromit- //Thought the whole show was average and needs canceling.//

Or perhaps you could just watch something else, there are several hundred channels you can chose from. The whole "I don't like something so it should be cancelled" train of thought has always hacked me off.
I suppose it's another victim of covid limitations on gatherings etc, etc.
We wanted to watch something good as it was New Year's Eve. Something musical and cheerful with New Year spirit. We turned off a dire New Year Party on ITV and clicked through all the channels - nothing. So we decided on Jool's because at least there are good acts. It was half way through when we switched over so we missed Lulu, but apart from the two acts I mentioned it was useless in ourvopinio.

So Mozz, don't be too harsh on Gromit because we felt the same!! ;0).

Happy New Year x
Lottie, thinking it was a bit rubbish is fine and I have no problem with that - taste is subjective, but it's the calling for something to be cancelled because you didn't like it is just an extension of the "cancel culture" many ABers regularly moan about.
Personally, I think Hootanny with Jools has seen better days. We stopped watching a good teachers ago.

The highlight of my New Years Eve was seeing Neil Hannon and The Divine Comedy on the Graham Norton show and that their tour next year includes a reasonably near venue!
Few years, not teacher!
I taped Graham Norton just so I can catch up with Neil's appearance. Been a huge fan since Casanova was release in '96. Sadly the tour doesn't make it to my little south east hidey-hole, but looking forward to the new Best Of album in the spring.
Watched Norton then we had our own music show on here, great fun.
