Correct.
//NJ //The shortcomings of the BBC funding model is that you are compelled by law to fund it regardless of whether you use it.//. That isn't the case, is it?//

Err, yes it is. You cannot watch any other channel (live) if you dont pay for the BBC. So for people like me, and it would appear you, that is fine we cancel the licence and use Amazon or whatever. However, if say you are keen on Sports and have Sky Sports, you have no choice but to pay. That is so dreadfully wrong.
Ah, I see. OK.
ymb, You can watch any programme, other than BBC, on catch-up or demand.
I know, but if you are a footie fan than thats not a lot of use is it?

The score is all over social media as the game is played !
in this digital tv age where we all use a sky box or similar it is simlpe to set up a paywall to non subscribers. If you do not subscribe, for instance, to BT Sport or Amazon, then you cannot watch their programmes.
But that's still watching "live tv" though. It does seem a bit odd, however, to pay a Sky subscription and also a licence.
To ymb^. Obviously you aren't compelled to use social media, if you don't want a "spoiler".
You still need a license to watch or stream programmes live on an online TV service (such as ITV Hub, All 4, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Now TV, Sky Go, etc.).
