Anyone watching this series? It is a strange concept. There was a couple of very good episodes in previous series - it all depends on the people involved.

Very misleading title. Some make a bit of money for 6 months hard work (often their family gets involved too) while others either give up or complete the job & make nothing.

In the final total, expenses such as auction fees & selling fees are an eye-watering amount!

Yes, those fees do add up. I hope they include the fees for the bits we don't see and don't seem to be mentioned - the electricians, gas fitters and other trades that at least need to sign off the work if not undertake it.
In one episode the house was unsaleable as the boiler was just hanging on the wall not connected to anything, the toilet wasn't connected and some of the work so shoddy it was dangerous. The producers had to get the experts in to finish the job so no profit.
Yes, I've been watching it. So far this series, they seem to be more successful, coming away with a decent profit at the end.
I wonder if they are aware just how much the fees etc will add up at the end.
NO! I can't be the only person on here who hates any sort of property show...deadly uninteresting.

I hope the participants have watched earlier series, pasta - they will be fully aware of the fees
I love property shows...for many different reasons. Looking at interiors and the changes made, the choices people make when deciding what's right for them, before and after value, what a house and home represents.
I've watched a few of these and there never seems to be any inspection of, or problems with the roof. Same with the central heating/boiler.

I agree, goodgoalie. My guess is the producers make sure the properties are at least structurally sound and can be renovated within the tiny budget
It is good they include all the fees, although i love Homes under the Hammer, they often say something like "Dave has made 15k profit before taxes & fees" which i then think well Dave has made nothing then!
I watch this programme as I find it a fascinating show on two levels. First the interaction between candidates and secondly the progress of the build.
This week alone has been interesting a a young plumber was paired with a very stroppy young female. About two months in the plumber bailed out with a spend more time with family reason. I guess it was to spend less time with his show partner. Yesterday was a young electrician with a lovely female who was averse to doing any work. He bailed out sharpish as he was doing most of the work. To her credit she carried on but needed the help of the shows contractors and many other trades. The house was finished but after all expenses there was not much profit left. When asked would she do it again there was a massive breath out and no was the answer.

If I remember correctly the plumber bailed out because he got an estate agent to value the property. It was valued very low and the plumber decided there wasn't enough profit in it to justify him carrying on. He could make more money in his proper job.
