We have not watched for many years. I must admit I will this year because I love our song, and really have taken a shine to Sam Ryder. He's gorgeous :o) and with a great voice and a clever songwriter.
I posted earlier that I had to watch it for the first time in years and was expecting 4 hours of dross. I cant explain but I felt such pride as the votes came in for the UK, seems we are no longer the pariahs of Europe.
I'm not sure Britain has been a pariah, Prudie, there have been five British winners before. That's behind only Ireland and Sweden. (France for instance hasn't won since 1977.) The problem seems to have been mostly bad songs or singers.
We haven't won for 25 years but it's not about winning per se, we always used to be in with a chance but for the last few years we hardly got any votes, last year it was zero. It's not just about the song, the politics is also a major factor.
And Spain hasn't won since 1969 - and that was a tie.
France were second last year.
Second last this.
Germany won recently, nul points from the juries this year.
The UK came 5th in 2009.
Ireland's song is perennially awful and perennially they fail to make the final.
ichkeria, yes, I cited France because they've also won 5 times, the same as Britain. I expect their chat sites are full of people asking "Pourquoi les gens nous détestent?"
That link I would have thought shows how unlikely it is "political" voting by juries is to affect the result.
If they are analysing voting pattenrs in dress rehearsals!
I love the fact that the woman the winning song was written for, Stefania Psiuk, didn’t even know it was about her until someone in her home town asked her for a selfie …
