A vague plot to an episode of a TV show came into my head, but I can't recall which show. All I have is that there was an antique shop/dealer and a professor/curator was called upon to help, and it turned out that he was the murderer. I'm thinking Dalziel and Pascoe or Midsomer Murders kind of thing? Does that ring any bells with anyone?! Thanks.

Don't know, there are loads of detective programmes which might of had this script.

I think that sounds like Lovejoy from a few years ago.

I've found it! It was an episode of the Inspector Lynley Mysteries, about sacred scrolls. Mark Benton (New Customers Only) was the professor. Thanks though for suggestions. Cheers.
