I used to watch this a lot, and decided to watch it again tonight. But the annoying loud background music was getting on my nerves, so I switched off and won’t be watching it again. Was there always background music on this programme? I never noticed it before.

(It's amazing how many people just leave them set to the default levels, rather than adjusting them as soon as they get the TV). Even my ultra-cheapo Polaroid TV, from Asda, has a decent range of audio settings. More expensive models tend to have even more options.
So press that 'Menu' button and navigate to the audio settings. You'll almost certainly be able to improve things a great deal.

The settings affect everything but if you choose, say, a 'Speech' or 'Drama' setting over, say, a 'Concert' or 'Theatre' setting, it will accentuate the higher frequencies, making speech stand out more from background music. (That assumes that your TV set uses 'named' settings. If you've just got bass and treble controls, try reducing the bass and increasing the treble).
