Dusty was a total icon, before such a term was really used for female artists. She had boundless talent, but was a total slave to her consuming insecurity - when she went to Memphis to record her 'Dusty In Memphis' album, she was overwhelmed with doubts about her worthiness to be in the same studio with such a famous line-up of stellar musicians. Watched for a while, but a whole night of Dusty was going to be too much.
Watched a lot of it, then bed was calling. Really enjoyed what I did see. Fabulous.
I have always enjoyed her music, fabulous range of genres, great voice and tone.
I admired her as a person, too.
I've never admired anyone outside of my family. Why should I?
What an odd thing to say. Nobody is saying you should. but why wouldn't you admire someone outside of your family?
Fair enough, 10C, but why shouldn't I?

Admire definition: look at (something impressive or attractive) with pleasure

I get a great deal of pleasure from many things and people in this world.
That is an odd thing to say, Clarion, but I bet if you really think about it, it isn't true.

I watched a bit of it but bed was beckoning and I succumbed. I might try to find it on catch up though. I think she was superb.
I've had a quick gander through your posts, 10C, and see you have mentioned several people outside your family that you admire.
I watched the first programme and enjoyed it. The second one was past my bedtime but I might see if its on catchup. The first one looked as if it had been put together recently as the late Burt Bacharach was mentioned.
one on my favourites
i cant really understand how much her facial features changed in her lifetime. Hardly recognisable in the latter years , i saw her live twice in the 60s,

There may be instances of me saying I like someone, or something. But I don't think I've ever used the word "admire". To repeat: Why would I?
Started, then we had a power cut. Ended up going to bed by the light of my mobile - enforced early night! Think the electricity went back on about 6 am.
I think you admired the little girl with the medals that you met, 10C.
Maybe your interpretation of 'admire' is different
As in 'Son of a preacher?'
Is she still live and kicking?
Didn't see it .

However I watched Dionne Warwick the other night .

Very talented lady and her record sales and hits very phenomenal
'very' = all
I think "touched" would have been more appropriate, barry.
piggy - // Is she still live and kicking? //

Tragically not, Dusty died of breast cancer in 1999.

In the end, her vocals were recorded in New York, and dubbed into the album separately.

As a lesbian, the false life inflicted on her by the prejudices of the time simply exacerbated her personal issues of insecurity and the feelings that she was not actually worthy of her massive fame and success.

Listening to 'If You Go Away' can still make me cry, she will never be equaled.

A similarly tragic and insecure Amy Winehouse came close, but there is and can only ever be, one Dusty.
