I thought it was much better than I was expecting. Kept close to the story apart from the swearing and Biddy is the same age as Pip.

Hadn't intended to watch, but caught the first few minutes and was hooked. Very watchable.
oh, where
Question Author
BBC 1 at 9pm tonight.
Well cast, beautifully directed with lots of atmosphere......then Olivia Coleman appeared
Damn! I missed it.
Detest the twee warning before it started that it might upset some sensitive little souls.
Seems OK so far, just started it, watched Grace first, still think that John Mills was the best Pip though.
The bbc production in the 80's was good, stratford johns was brilliant .
Read it years ago. Very atmospheric. I will give this TV version a go.
this is not about GE - but sister said she watched about the Old Queen Victoria played by Meryl Streep the other night and thought it was fabulous she kept talking about Abdul (I don't know anything but thought I would take my chances) I said Oh oh oh - she loved Abdul even tho she loved Albert -

I'd like to see what she is talking about.

Seen a few Great Expectations in my day but the best was the very very very like myself very very old one. Perhaps John Mills was in it. Cant remember - just want to know this latest Greatest Expectations.

In our conversations with sister - I said "oh was olivia coleman in it " she said oh no no no - so I don't where I am but I'll tell ye all - I done and I will make arrangements (body and soul) for the 70 year old ears to be hopefully done on Wednesday oh ie Waxed
Victoria wasn't played by Meryl Streep - it was Judi Dench!
yes brainiac - she mentioned judi dench - where was Meryl Streep or is the sister having the start of "you know what" Lol
oh by the bye - i saw Judi Dench many moons ago in that movie but recall Queen Victoria loved Abdul as well as Albert. Not too sure if she really loved all these men - she adored sex.

here, when you are at it - where did Billy Connolly come in I love Billy
Judi Dench played Victoria in Mrs Brown with Billy Connolly
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119280/

And in Victoria and Abdul
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5816682/?ref_=tt_ch

Meryl Steep isn't in either - your sister must have got mixed up with that :)
How many episodes are there?
We both really enjoyed it, looking forward to next episode.
I’ve never read the book but must have seen either a film or previous series as it was very familiar.
I see it gets slated in various reviews.
Six episodes I believe, Barsel.
Yes, Vagus...one star from the miserable critic in the DM - which is as good a reason to watch as any!
Not sure how many times it's been on TV and filmed but I must have seen at least 3/4 so decided to give it a miss this time
Charles Dickens must be rolling in his grave at this travesty of one of his greatest works.Total nonsense from start to finish.I will stick with the proper versions.
@22.49.You missed nothing, darren.Watch the 1946 David Lean version instead.(a classic in most peoples filmography).
