Having lived (and worked) during 1974 I don't need to watch a tv programme about it. Went to work as usual, finished when it got too dark to do any more. If there was a deadline then worked during daylight on Saturday and Sunday.

Thatcher devastated this fine country. The day she finally stood down both my husband and I (who were teachers) independently stopped on the way home from school to buy a bottle of champagne in celebration. We still have the empty bottles with "RIP Thatcher" scrawled in chalk on them.

on the way home from school at the time, I used to pass a boarded up shop that had become a bit of a billboard. the poster that stood out for me was posted just before the February election - it read "Vote for Ted, 4 days in bed"....

The thing I remember most was the comment made by my card carrying Labour party member mother in law after an old people's party in Mrs Ts Finchly constituency, ' She never misses it, and she makes time to speak to everyone. '
A friend who worked in the HOC said she was always ok with the workers there and made sure you were thanked if you undertook a task for her. I think this says more about her than anything.

i think i have said numerous times that i think thatcher did an awful lot of harm to the uk... it is however undeniable that she possessed a formidable intellect and really believed in something even if that something was quite horrible. she was also a talented political strategist... she understood who she needed on-side and didn't care a jot about anyone who was not useful
