just watch the OFAH episode..."Who's a pretty Boy" can someone tell me why this was cut out? Right at the start Del walks into the Nags head and sees Ranjet, an indian, he says: " Saw your Mrs in the market, she's got a nasty spot on her forehead!" - they both burst into laughter. Whole line cut, why? This madness is destroying the classics.

TTT @18:57 \\webbo: "Todays young audience find everything offensive." - no, anal sex, blokes snogging, TG bowlockes, same sex couple that's all fine. One bit of carry on innuendo and they wet their non gender specific pants.// Exactly.

I bet you want the Fawlty Towers episode when the major talks about the Indians broadcast. I think even John Cleese recognises now that it's unacceptable.
OFAH started in 1981; I think things have moved on since then and maybe today's (young) audience would find it offensive?
Question Author
yes they all should be broadcast without this censorship cobras. All they have to do is precede the program with a warning that they actually do do sometimes. We are letting the new fascists win.
Don't mention the war!

Offensive my April, it's a few trobiscites that's all.

18:47, I must endure stiff I find offensive all day every day, but that's ok because the stuff I find offensive is dead trendy.

Todays young audience find everything offensive.
TTT, that show started 42 years ago and things have changed whether you like it or not. Calling folk names won't change that fact.
Today- I, probably like you, saw the series at the time it was first broadcast, a different time.

If we saw it now, we would not be offended.

But those born in a different time have different perceptions of humour, and part of moving forward, is accepting that what was once perfectly acceptable, may not ge so now.

I would hate to think that I wanted the world to fit in with my ideas about tastes and values - I certainly wouldn't want my parents' values forced on me.

That is how we.mofe and change, and accept that the world is increasingly less 'ours', and more our children's, and their peers.

And if that means missing an inconsequential joke in a sitcom, I can live with that
Is deleting one "joke"really going to effect the programme that much?
Question Author
AH, yes some shows at some times are preceded with a warning like: "This program was made in a time when certain views and expressions were different" - do that.
TTT - Fair enough, but when a line is specifically poking fun at adherents of a particular faith, a little consideration doesn't hurt.

as if to prove my point the above post will almost certainly be removed.

I've stopped watch the bond films too now, they have been cut to ribbons. Glad I have the DVDs.
With your being such a huge OFAH fan, have you not got the original version on multiple formats anyway?

Exactly.
Sad. Inclusivity is the buzz word - unless the woke decide not to embrace inclusivity. Miserable bunch. I think of them as the Dementors in the Harry Potter books. They suck the joy out of everything.
You'll get square eyes, Tora.
Mind your language, It ain't half hot, mum, Love thy neighbour, were all very much things of their time. Does anyone think there's a place on TV for them now?
