It's the fatal flaw of the show: the chasers have no skin in the game, and they get paid whatever happens. If we were told that if they lost they forfeited their fee, then there would be something at stake. And it would make a more interesting and exciting programme.

Mark Labbett gurning and grimacing when he loses is a joke - what difference does it make to him?

Of course they have skin in the game, they lose too often they get fired. They are pro quizzers their job is to train and perform. If they don't perform they get fired. Just like sports people. It's a TV show first and foremost in the end and all the production staff from the host to the tea boy get paid, that's how it works.
