Having watched this again, it's definitely a white middle England thing isn't it? I could only see two non-white faces and both of them were in the choir. Where are all the "England-loving" immigrants to join in with our great tradition of showing our nationalism? It'll get banned soon for being a white, jingoistic and inappropriate event in these days of muti-culturalism. Watch this space. :o)

WSpa, you’ll notice that when you challenge Khandro, he runs out of arguments and becomes abusive. Or, maybe you already know?
'Britannia rule the waves' is the subjunctive tense - which does make a difference.
Khandro 17.03 Giles Milton wrote a very interesting book about white slavery and most of it was about my ancestor. That's enough reward for me.
The highest volumes of the transatlantic slave trade came in the 1700s. During this century more than half of the total, amounting to an average of about 50,000 enslaved Africans per year, was transported. This took place mostly from the end of the Seven Years' War in 1763 until the end of the British trade in 1807.

These are the mores of the time this music was written - people boasting that they would never be slaves whilst profiting from the horrible trade themselves.

I hope you now understand how I feel about this music, Khandro and stop p1ssing into the wind.

Zacs - Master, I didn't realise what he was like but everybody knows now.

//'Britannia rule the waves' is the subjunctive tense - which does make a difference.//

Subjunctive isn't a tense, it's a mood. And anyway, 'Britannia rule the waves' isn't subjunctive, it's imperative. Just saying :)
Zacs-Master; //you’ll notice that when you challenge Khandro, he runs out of arguments and becomes abusive.//

Where have I been abusive ? I have merely pointed out facts.
and for that matter, where have I run out of arguments?
Well, I’d say the following statements are pretty offensive:

‘You can't even explain the outlook/ world view (Weltanschauung) of your grandparents, let alone that of an Englishman in the first part of the 18th century….’

‘like many other of the historically challenged & misinformed’

Your quaint approach to debate is much as it ever was. Anachronistic and rude.
Argue the topic - personal attacks are surplus to requirements.

WSpa, //Does everybody enjoy the singing of 'Land of Hope and Glory' //

Love it! This country's history and achievements are unparalleled - and no, I am not ashamed .... of anything. The Last Night of the Proms epitomises Britain at its best - and long may it and the patriotism it engenders continue.
ZM. All completely accurate
Thank you, I’m glad you agree.

Thanks for all the replies folks, ranging from The Last Night of The Proms to slavery! Sheesh! I watch it every year and really enjoy it. It's still mainly a middle England thing though isn't it? Come on!
Khandro

"I have merely pointed out facts."

You wrote:

"As it seems every black person in the West feels they need compensation for their ancestors being taken as slaves"

That's not even close to being a fact.

It's something that is quite a long way away from being a fact.
Absolute bullcarp, sp.

You have used two separate replies from Khandro...why?

Because one contradicts the other. Probably.
Why?

Because the second answer is clearly wrong based o his previous answer.

To explain:

If someone gave these two answers:

I hate small fluffy animals that go “meow”

And then in a separate answer wrote:

I adore cats

Then I t’s perfectly fair to take the second answer and refer to the first to show the second isn’t true.
Yeah - what ZM said (so much more succinctly).
Absolute nonsense.
You can't cobble different posts together to suit.

Khandroa
ndres; As it seems every black person in the West feels they need compensation for their ancestors being taken as slaves, perhaps you could claim some recompense from the Turks. :0)

-As it seems- is not Khandro saying that is fact is it.
Re-read his answer.

Khandro wrote:

Obviously this is cobblers and it’s also his view. If it wasn’t he wouldn’t mention it.
And what do you think the smiley face at the end of the post denotes?
royfromaus

Seriously?

You think that’s a smiley face????

It’s the “shout” emoji.

The : are eyes, the 0 is the mouth and the ) is the chin.

I think a lot of people get confused on that one….like David Cameron and ‘LOL’.
