What you don't seem to grasp is that with general knowledge, there's no grey area. You either know or don't know. Not knowing the answer to a GK question doesn't make someone thick.

So for example, if the question was "what premiership football team does Fred Bloggs play for? a decent guess might be "Arsenal" but if I guessed "The new york Yankees" - I'd rightly be a figure of amusement.
