Sorry to hear that you are in that predicament. I hope your power is restored soon. Are the dogs sleeping by the fire?

How have you got the internet?  Phone?

Oh gosh, very good luck keeping yourselves and the dogs warm.

Question Author

One is sleeping near the fire the other is not bad keen so she is wrapped up in a blanket.

Yes the phone!

I asked because living in the middle of nowhere we get a lot of power cuts and I always worry about charging phones.  Real fires come into their own at such times though.  I wouldn't be without ours.  I hope you have lift off again soon.

We have power packs that enable us to charge that and the car

We have the living in the back end of beyond problem, Naomi.  I charge our phones in the car.  I can then use my phone as a hotspot (which is iffey, I admit) sat in front of the fire.

I have also been known to knock up dinner on the outdoor (gas) bbq.

I see on BBC News that some could be without power for 10 days!

We've done that, BM - knock up dinner on the bbq or the paella ring.  Very useful!  I've also got several big candle lanterns always at the ready.

Do you have power now, DDIL?

Question Author

No unfortunately not and it looks like we won't for several days

Halfords have a pretty good camping stove around £20 I've kept one at home for some time now, the small canisters of gas are a bit pricey around £10 /12 for 4. But if it got to bad then I would bring the motorhome out of storage and live on the drive.:0)

My Grandfather ran a WH Smith shop at a train station donkey's years ago and he was very busy.  Nobody gets newspapers now, apart from the free ones. There is a suburb around here where the foot fall is very high but still nobody goes into WH Smith. It's the way it is.  People read online and sit on their backsides buying stuff from Amazon

Sorry, wrong threat.  I wish this website wouldn't jump around just as I`m about to post something

Thread! (Jesus- typo as well)

Question Author

We are now entering 52 hours  without electricity, we have been given a fix date of 3 feb.

we can't get a camping stove for love or money locally so will have to rely on amazon but I am not even sure they can deliver the gas to us.

Amazon do a camping gas stove plus 8 canisters included for £24.95. So it appears the can send the gas. You could also try EBay lots of dealers on their.

Question Author

Amazon order in, they will get the gas to us by Friday

I've got one of these, ideal for use on a camping stove.  Get the food hot on the gas, then leave it to cook without heat
