...other than Youtube.

I can post Youtube content, but when it comes to my attempts to post links from media outlets, i never know how much or how little to include of the URL?

Would appreciate it if someone could explain so i don't have to keep on asking for others to provide the links for my posts.

Ta in advance.

I just copy and paste the whole thing and press enter afterwards.  I find if I don't press enter the link doesn't work.  That might be just me though.  I've not seen anyone else say that but it works for me.

What device are you using?

Well, it depends on the contents of the url. Answerbank doesn't seem to like ampersands which join variables at the end of a link. I would copy the whole thing then shorten it here:

https://tinyurl.com/

The link should start with "https://" and then it is turned into a link automatically by AB ...

Example of with and without https:// ...

* www.bbc.co.uk/news - no https = no link
* https://www.bbc.co.uk/news - https = link

so for the above i copied the address bar, and it didn't work.  I dunno wot i do wrong

but i removed the stuff after the ampersand at radagsts suggestion and it did

To post a Youtube video, from right to left, i highlight and copy all detail up to and including the 'y' of youtube, paste it then type https://www. before it. Works perfectly.

I'm on an android 'phone and if a link has no, "https", it shows as black but if I highlight it as if I were copying it, it gives me the option to open the link.

Eureka!

Thanks everyone, particularly Radagast.

You type https://www. (or https:// if the original url only has that part in the address) then C&P the rest of the url from the web page address bar.

Ken, I clicked on your link which worked but this is the url:

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/elon-musk-reveals-doge-found-14-magic-money-computers/ss-AA1B9twB

The information after the question mark has gone. This probably doesn't matter in most cases but if you copy the whole url and use:

https://tinyurl.com/

all will be preserved.

I actually highlighted the URL, excluding all after the ampersand, Radagast. Don't know why it then appeared when i pasted?

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/other/grand-national-cheltenham-gold-cup-hero-inothewayurthinkin-ruled-out-of-1m-race/ar-AA1B9LNe?ocid=msedgntp

And i just did the same for the GN link.

I don't know why either. Your last link works. You'll just have to hope that the stuff after the question mark isn't needed.

Question Author

I've bookmarked your link for tinyurl, Radagast, should i ever need it. Thanks again 😉

I use a url shortener if the link is a great long screed.

If there's a question mark in the URL, you can delete it and everything that follows it.

Otherwise, if it's a ridiculously long URL, simply shorten it here:
https://tinyurl.com/
