I Need A New Watch

I need a new watch with a clear face and no battery (a windy-up one).

I like this one.  Is it a wind up one?  I think it is but I want to be sure.

Thank you.

The descriptive text seems to embrace umpteen different types of watch.  Even the heading ('Womens Expansion Band Watches Date Watch Nylon Watches Quartz Wrist Analog Men's Quartz Men's Watch Diamond Watch') is confusing!

However the repeated use of the word 'quartz' on that page strongly suggests to me that the watch shown there is battery-powered (because the quartz crystal in such a watch needs electricity to get it to vibrate).

Yeah, there seemed to be too many random words in the description.  I'll have ca good loo when I wake up later.

Sleepy time!!

Sleep well, Susan!  💤

In the meantime though, I've been trying to see if there are any wind-up watches on offer which might be suitable.  Unfortunately, most search terms still lead to results with the word 'quartz' in them.

A search for 'women's mechanical' watch' might prove useful though:

(Double check though.  Amazon's search facility is far from perfect and is still likely to return results with 'quartz' in them!)

I have a citizen watch that is powered by any type of light and it works a treat.  When it is not worn it just gets left somewhere that there is a bit of light and if there is no light it goes for around 6 months before it needs to see light again to charge it.

Google tells me that what you want is a manual or mechanical watch. This came up on amazon...they tend to be hard to find and expensive.

It's a quartz watch so it is battery

^not only that, it's despatched from China by a seller with 30% 1-star rating. That watch is probably worth a couple of pounds, max.

Barry...it says self eind. Or is that more of the confusing amazon descriptions?

Gingebee...very useful information 👌

Oops...sorry Barry and Ginge...I see you may have both been responding to wolf's link.

My watch is similar to theshedman's, no battery required as it is solar-powered. They're not cheap, but it was a Christmas present.

I've had it for years and it has never failed me one. It also incorporates a stop=watch feature.

*once, not one

I think that a solar watch is the best watch for me but it seems to be at the wrong price.

I will give it some thought.  Today is not a good day to do any thinking.  My brain has gone MIA.

Thanks folks.

I'm very pleased with my Citizen eco drive, I've had it at least 20 years.

I certainly wouldn't discount buying one second hand.

Barry, Oxfam online store is having a 40% off sale and I went and bought a watch just two minutes ago.  It is one of the pretty ones with different coloured straps you can change to match your clothes.

It was new and still in the box. I should know better than to look at the sale when I am not awake.  It's a bit like shopping whilst drunk.😃

Glad you've found one you like - is it a windy up one?

Question Author

I don't know - but it is a pretty colour😅
