Has anyone seen or heard anything about this new American sci-fi import. Is it any good and whats it about?

I watched the first 2 episodes and then lost interest.The acting wasn't the greatest.

I've seen the first 12 eps. A marine biologist discovers a new vertebrate that is large enough to totally destroy the food chain. She's joined by a guy whose brother was killed (?) by one of the creatures and they set out to find more whilst being pursued by a shadowy govt agency with its own agenda. Meanwhile a lonely teenage boy becomes "mother" to what appears to be a baby of the species.

It's OK in a "brain off" fashion, though I wouldn't be upset if it were cancelled. If you like Spielberg's earlier stuff, you'll spot plenty of rip offs/homages. Watchable, but the only thing that makes it different is that the cast aren't all "pretty". (Many would disagree with my assessment of the female lead, and were heartened by a gratuitous scene where she strips down to her smalls and coats herself in oil to swim a cold stretch of water in a later ep).

IMHO the best SF show at the moment is the new incarnation of "Battlestar Galactica".
