Many years ago saw a film on TV, cannot remember title and have never seen repeated-thought it starred James Stewart but can't identify it form his full list of films.Or was it an Alfred ******** film?
Basic plot was that the star (JS?) worked for a newspaper and had an old hack as a friend who died but kept revisiting him and would give him tomorrows headline news so that our man could always scoop a great story before the event. One day the hack is reluctant to reveal tomorrows news because the headlines tell of our man being killed, as the next day pans out our man gets robbed and has his wallet stolen, and the robber dies in a shoot out with the police, who search his pockets find our mans wallet and assume incorrectly that is who they have shot.
Can anyone help me identify film?

I think the film is 'it happened tomorrow' with Dick Powell , it's taken me a while to find, but I've definately seen it. Funny, cause I would have said it was a James Stewart film too.
