Came home from work early yesterday afternoon, switched on the TV and found this amazing courtroom drama called Judge Judy. The defendants are tried two at a time and they are not allowed any legal representation. The witnesses are told to sit down without the chance of giving evidence but worst of all,the jury justs sits there and never delivers a verdict, which means everyone is found guilty. No one was sent to prison but were given heavy fines. As they were led from the court they expressed their bewilderment of the whole proceedings. I must admit I felt the same way. This lady rules with a fist of iron and I am sure she would sentence these poor people to death if she had the power. Call this justice? I think not.

Where on earth have you been - this has been olluting out screens for at least 5 or 6 years. It's a civil court rulng so there isnt a jury but they always have the folk mouthing off at the end usually cussing each other out. She needs to be tough cause in general you should see the civil law sits that get filed - insane - it could only happen in America.
You havent seen the worst of it, i moved to the States 2 years ago from Ireland, and there is about 6 of these shows going around at the moment since that one
You do have the option of not watching!!
I love Judge Judy!!
They are not trials. The two partys are in civil dispute over something and have agreed to go along with Judy's ruling. Usually if they had an ounce of common sense between them they would be able to sort it out themselves. Fortunately Judy does seem able to do joined up thinking and usually comes up with a fair resolution.

dont diss judge judy - she just says what everyone else is thinking!

She tells all the pregnant teenagers the should have kept their legs shut (i'm paraphrasing here) and that people who are suing for money are ridiculous because its not going to make them happy/make the dog unbite their leg/get the person to hand over granpas ashes/make their emotional pain any better.

Who among us hasnt thought that and wanted to shout it at the telly?

Judge Judy rocks!

Ive got to admit i love that show. My favourite was when i woman tried to sue someone she lived in a block flats with. The woman had posted a flyer, so the dog jumped up to the letter box for it and hurts its leg on the way down, the dogs owner tried to sue her for the vets fee's.

Judy was not happy with that one!!

Ali, i remember that one!. Shows what petty things americans will sue for!

Thanks to everyone who took the trouble to reply. Judge Judy is obviously very popular but I am still a bit worried about her view of justice. The judges on Law and Order are a lot more compassionate.
