They're the media used by the Sony PSP.
thats umd - universal media disc
UMD indeedy is another format used specifically for the PSP hand held. Obviously they have had to shrink everything down to accomodate the idea of 'hand held' so they created the format.
It stands for Ultra High definition - (I Think), which will be the next generation of tv
