A film from the 1950's or 60's - black and white I think. Early on a driver on a dark road stops, digs a grave beside the road and starts to bury a 'dead body' . Suddenly the 'dead body' is in fact still alive (just) and points a gun up at the driver. He dies before he can shoot and the driver continues to bury him. Much later in the film the 'star'/key character is climbing around the outside of a building and is stabbed through the hand by someone leaning out of a window. Can't remember much else other than this being a really great film thriller and I've been trying to find the title for many years.

That sounds a bit like 'Blood Simple' to me - but it was from the 80's not the 60's.

Definitely not the 80's - I saw it twice (on TV) in the early 1970's
May want to check out the Coen brothers 'inspiration' for their films - they plagiarise most of their stuff!!

'Blood Simple' had the man being buried in the field and pointing a gun, and the bloke leaning round from one room to another and having his hand pinned to the window sill by a knife - he then shoots and beats his way through the wall to free himself! Well worth a watch even if it's not what you're after!
Sorry I couldn't help further.

Thanks Jon I'll give it a try. Certainly sounds extremely similar.
